What is teamwork?

Topics: Life Skills

Teamwork is working respectfully and effectively with a group and doing your share. Many basic character strengths, such as communication, self-control, and humility, support a person's ability to work on a team. Teamwork is more than getting along with people. The key to being a good team player is the ability to put a group's needs above your own.

Kids have many opportunities to practice teamwork skills in their daily lives and online. Collaborative school projects, sports, and even family decisions require the ability to be flexible and solve problems. Working well in a common online environment is increasingly important, too. Increasingly, more services are stored "in the cloud," technological advancements enable people from different areas to work together, and professional tools let workers contribute pieces to a larger project -- all of which depends on the ability to work well on a team.
