The Summer of Broken Rules

The main characters all read as White and are mostly straight. Individual minor characters are African American, Creole, adopted from Central America, and another has a South Asian-sounding name. There's a same-sex married couple, and mention that a male character is attracted to men.

Some sadness and trauma from a past death in a car accident, which is briefly described without gore. A major family activity is a game called Assassin, which is played with squirt guns and provides some minor language and images related to murder and death.

Kissing, undressing, making out, flirting, and romantic dynamics are described briefly. Having sex is implied but never narrated or described. A couple of good examples of asking for consent. Using a condom is implied. An erection and needing to "compose" oneself after kissing is implied.

Most alcohol consumption is by adults in an atmosphere of a large wedding celebration. Older teens and adults have beer and cigars. Teens drink champagne at a wedding. Excess is rare, and there are no consequences beyond hangovers. No drunken behavior is modeled.
