It's not all bared fangs and dripping blood in this fantasy romance. There's a strong message about female empowerment, witty dialogue, and an improbable romance. The Scarlet Veil has a dizzying number of characters and storylines, but the large number of flashbacks (and spoilers) means teens who haven't read the Serpent & Dove trilogy can enjoy this as a stand alone read.
