The Scarlet Veil: The Scarlet Veil, Book 1

Jean Luc is described as having bronze skin. The other characters are White with a brief mention of two woman who had once been in love.

There's lots of dripping blood as fangs are plunged into necks and vampires drink blood out of cups and goblets. A man's tongue is ripped out, bodies are found drained of blood, and there are bloody and gory fights between vampires and vampires and ghosts. There's a serial killer on the loose and vampires are attacked with stakes and humans with knives. One vampire character battles his "bloodlust," trying to stop himself from killing in gruesome and horrific ways. Célie doesn't hesitate to knee men in the groin if she feels threatened.

Although their relationship is never consumated, there's still lots of smoldering passion between Michal and Célie, with deep kisses, molding of bodies against each other "desperate to find friction," and wanting to "move close enough to ease the ache." When a man flexes his hips against her, Célie feels "something hard" pressing against her leg. Célie and Michal visit an enchanted brothel and hear cries of pleasure and a reference is made to two women who "loved each other once."

Occasional use of profanity ("f—k," "s—t," "damn," and "bitch").
