What's the Story?
In SHAPE ISLAND: CREEPY CAVE CRAWL, Shape Island's Triangle, Square, and Circle are celebrating Halloween. Triangle delights in the "trick" part of Halloween, but his friend Square prefers the "treats." Triangle creates an elaborate haunted cave surprise for his friends, but the spookiness is too much for Circle and Square. They angrily leave him alone in the cave and decide to have a treats-only Halloween. After the silly mishaps that ensue, the shape friends realize that the best Halloween is one spent together with both tricks and treats.
Is It Any Good?
This holiday special spookifies all the charms of Shape Island for Halloween. Creepy Cave Crawl explores a very salient Halloween concern for preschoolers: feeling scared. The shapes have different attitudes toward scary Halloween fun, and they honor and celebrate those differences. The glowing-eyed monsters straddle the scary/silly line perfectly, and are a visual treat. Triangle's "King of Halloween" song and dance number is super fun. For preschoolers who (like Triangle) like to feel a tiny bit spooked on Halloween, Shape Island: Creepy Cave Crawl is a delightful addition to holiday viewing.
