What's the Story?
Elephants have been roaming the Earth for over six million years, narrator Natalie Portman tells viewers in SECRETS OF THE ELEPHANT. They inhabit the deserts and rainforests of Africa, giving birth and raising precious calves. They live among people in Asia who put up electric fences to keep them from invading their orchards. And they hide in forests, seldom seen by human eyes. But how will they continue to survive? What can humans do to honor these intelligent and caring animals whose habitat we raze in order to develop the land at an alarming rate?
Is It Any Good?
A passionate plea for the protection of habitat occupied by ancient animals, this docuseries informs as it entertains. Educational content goes hand-in-hand with remarkable camera work in Secrets of the Elephants, making it as good a series for the classroom as it is for the living room.
Families can enjoy this series together, though it will be most entertaining for wildlife fans. The emphasis on human impact on wildlife habitats will send shivers down some spines, but the elephants who use their smarts and strength to adapt to life among humans are sure to inspire.
