What's the Story?
ROBBIE WILLIAMS is a documentary series featuring British singer Robbie Williams reflecting on his over-25 year career. It features Williams looking at archival footage of himself, beginning in 1990 when, at the age of 16, he joined the boy band, Take That. This began his journey into the permissive adult world of the music industry. From his departure from the band and his rocky solo career, to the success and demise of his partnership with musician and producer Guy Chambers, Williams offers his honest thoughts about the challenges he faced along the way. Conversations with his wife, American actress Ayda Field, and a few brief appearances of his young children help round out the experience.
Is It Any Good?
This earnest docuseries presents Williams sharing his honest thoughts about who he was during the last 25 years, and who he is today. A big part of the overall conversation is about Robbie Williams' struggle with addiction, thanks, in part, to starting in the business as a young teenager with limited guidance or mentorship. He also talks about the insecurities he's felt over the years as a legitimate performer. Throughout it all, he highlights his sobriety, his family, and his love for music and performance. Williams' overall expression of vulnerability feels honest, which makes Robbie Williams compelling. No doubt that fans will find it worth the watch.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the reasons why smoking, drinking, and drug use are often characterized as being part of the music business. Is this a stereotype?
What lessons does Robbie Williams offer about the pitfalls of being young and successful in the music industry? What are identified as positives?
