It's a huge win getting Patrick Mahomes, arguably 2023's current face of the NFL, at the center of the first season of a documentary series. That by itself should be enough for most football fans to check out Quarterback, which is produced by Mahomes' production company in conjunction with Peyton Manning's. The picks for the other two subjects are also inspired. The series captures former #2 pick Marcus Mariota's return to a starting job and catches Kirk Cousins' 13-4 season, which featured a handful of incredible comebacks and viral moments. Plus, Mahomes and Mariota both had children born during the NFL season. Unfortunately, the documentary doesn't do a ton with all this great material. Though it claims to have "unparalleled access" to the players' lives, it sticks almost exclusively to interviews with the players, their wives, and their head coaches, interspersing clips and montages of games and sports media interviews. The result is a series that feels longer than it should be (at a total of more than six hours) yet not deep enough to offer new insight into its subjects. This one is mostly for the true fans.
