We are very particular about what our family watches. This checks all our boxes; reality, diversity, family centered and fun. Nadiya is a great host, my 5 year old loves this show and we’ve made a bunch of her recipes after watching episodes. The show is inclusive of different cultures and flavors, is bright and colorful. It isn’t a competition based reality show and there is no body or food shaming. Just the joy of cooking, eating, and sharing food.

What's the Story?

Celebrity Chef Nadiya Hussain (Great British Baking Show, Nadiya's Time to Eat) focuses on baking in her latest series Nadiya Bakes. Each episode features Nadiya demonstrating three recipes that are creative and colorful twists on classic British baked goods. She goes through the recipes step-by-step, making sure to pause on tricky steps to share her expert tips. Each episode also features a segment where a prominent British pastry chef shows off their creations. By the end of the cheerful episode, viewers will be ready to bake and eat the delicious confections.

Kids that love baking shows will love the charming Nadiya Bakes. Chef Nadiya is so lovely and down-to-earth that kids will feel like they're hanging with a cool aunt for half an hour. The show is stunningly beautiful -- the desserts are fruit forward and pop with bursts of color, and the English countryside setting makes you want to climb into the television and stay a while. Also, Nadiya offers little tips and tricks that will teach kids (and grown-ups) about baking technique.

Hussain has a way of making even kind of complicated recipes seem accessible and achievable, and will probably inspire everyone in the house to bake something (or at least dream about eating it). The only downside is that some of the ingredients she uses are somewhat specialty or not common in the U.S., and the measurements used in her recipes are metric, so it will take a little bit of work for families in the U.S. to replicate her recipes. Otherwise, this show is as sweet as the confections Nadiya whips up, and families that are into food will love watching together.
