What's the Story?
FROZEN PLANET II, a sequel to the Frozen Planet (2011) series, explores the natural habitats of the planet's coldest regions. Hosted by Sir David Attenborough, the six-part series allows viewers watch species of animals live in the cold and overcome challenges to survive. From snow-bound deserts and mountain peaks, to ice-filled oceans and snowy forests, it reveals how animals like penguins, killer whales, tigers, and polar bears hunt and raise their young. It also showcases natural phenomena that occurs in various frozen regions. Throughout it all, the show offers insight into how quickly the frozen wilderness is disappearing, and reminds viewers it's important to protect.
Is It Any Good?
The beautiful series features spectacular footage of Earth's frozen habitats and the wildlife that live there. Unlike its sister series, it goes beyond the north and south poles to reveal unique frozen regions around the world. The use of advanced drones provides a closer look at wildlife, which reveals remarkable patterns of animal behavior that most viewers have never seen. Adding interest are the experiences of the production staff, who are sometimes shown trying to capture specific natural events (like watching massive icebergs break apart) and coping with the harsh environments. But like all series in the Planet Earth franchise, Frozen Planet II sends a clear message about the immediate need to protect and conserve our planet before we lose these ecosystems completely. It's an extraordinary docuseries that families can learn from and enjoy, and it sends a strong message that we should all be paying attention to.
