What's the Story?
Gaspar, Ludovico, Coco, Juani, and Ulises are part of the musical group FREEKS. Gaspar and Ulises get into a physical altercation during a recording session, the video of their fight goes viral, and the group gets more attention. When a music executive approaches Gaspar to have a solo music deal he declines, but his relationship with his bandmates is fractured -- they accuse him of stealing money during their shows and forcibly remove him from the band he created. Gaspar decides to spy on the Freeks, and enlists the help of other friends to clear his name and uncover the identity of the real thief. Will he be able to solve the robbery mystery, or forever be on the outs with the band?
Is It Any Good?
This mildly entertaining show resembles a blend of a musical soap-opera and mystery. Freeks is unique in that many parts of the show are filmed like a documentary, and show the influence of social media on modern bands' success. The suspense and tension will likely appeal to the intended tween audience. The show could have done more to highlight Argentinian culture and the unique qualities of the music industry in other countries.
