What’s It About?
DEFENDERS OF MONSTROVIA is a mix of monster fiction, mystery plot, and courtroom drama. A young girl named Kara finds herself in the strange realm of Monstrovia, where she takes on her missing uncle's role of defender in the courthouse, aided by a cute flying hedgehog monster named Button. The podcast teaches listeners some legal vocabulary and entertains with silly tales of goblins, trolls, and lake monsters breaking odd laws and receiving sentencing from an impatient judge. The podcast comes from producers at GoKidGo and is executive produced by Mark H. Newhouse, author of the Tales of Monstrovia book series.
Is It Any Good?
If your kid enjoys (and isn't too frightened by) monster content, this podcast is a nice way to nudge them beyond basic scares and into other topics, like mystery and courtroom comedy. Defenders of Monstrovia is creative, fun, and features a smart, hard-working, and kind girl as the main character. Some legal concepts and fast-paced humor might go over younger listeners' heads, but it also makes this podcast an entertaining choice for grown ups who enjoy a good monster joke or courtroom drama. Younger listeners who might be creeped out by blood, bodily harm, haunting, or scary creatures should steer clear of this one.
