What's the Story?

90'S HOUSE is an MTV reality series that challenges a group of millennials to survive living in a '90s time warp in exchange for some prizes and $90K in cash. Hosted by Lance Bass and Cristina Milian, 12 strangers move into a '90s-themed house that lacks all the 2017 food, clothes, and digital amenities they are accustomed to. Throughout their stay, they must participate in a series of '90s themed, aka "Who Got Game," challenges. Winners get to stay in the house, while losers get "bounced." Helping them through the process are visits from '90s icons like Mario Lopez and Joey Lawrence. The winner gets the cash, as well as a new 1990s Mazda Miata and a cruise for two.

This moderately entertaining series pays homage to what made the '90s decade what it was, complete with Hammer pants, character-driven sitcoms, and boy band music. Fans of the decade will be able to pick out some of the more subtle references to the era. The challenges, many of which incorporate '90s music and dance moves, create some amusing moments, too.

However, the endless fighting, scheming, and cutthroat behavior (that begins at the very start of the first episode) tarnishes many of these would-be enjoyable moments. The overall cast isn't very likable, either. Despite the blast to the past, 90's House contains lots of questionable elements that reflect more contemporary reality entertainment.
